Install and activate Visio 2024

This guide takes you through the download, installation and activation of Microsoft Visio 2024 (Standard or Professional) on Windows in three steps. You have already received your 25-character licence key from us by email. Keep it to hand for the final step.

System requirements

Visio 2024 is a Windows-only program. Before installing, briefly check these points:

• Operating system: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
• Memory: at least 4 GB RAM
• Hard drive: around 4 GB of free disk space
• Internet connection: required for download and activation

Note: There is no Visio desktop version for Mac. Windows 7 and 8.1 are no longer supported by Visio 2024.

Before installing: check your existing Office

Visio 2024 can easily run alongside Microsoft 365, Office 2021 and Office 2024 on the same PC. You should still check two things beforehand:

1. Same bit version: If Office is already installed, Visio must use the same architecture (64-bit is the default today). You can see the installed variant in any Office app under File > Account > About ....
2. Remove trial versions: Uninstall pre-installed Microsoft 365 trial versions (common on new laptops) via Settings > Apps before installing Visio, and restart the PC afterwards.

Step 1: Download Visio 2024

1. Open our Keywi download page.
2. Select Visio 2024 there in the edition you purchased (Standard or Professional).
3. Download the offline installer. The file is several gigabytes in size, so depending on your connection this takes a few minutes.

You receive the original installation file from Microsoft. The licence key from your order email is only needed for activation, not for the download.

Step 2: Installation

1. Double-click the downloaded file to start it. If it is an ISO or IMG file: right-click > Mount, then run the file Setup.exe.
2. Confirm the User Account Control prompt with Yes.
3. The installation runs fully automatically and takes 5 to 15 minutes depending on your system. Leave the PC switched on during this time.
4. At the end, a message appears saying that Visio has been installed. Close the window with Close.

Step 3: Activate with your licence key

1. Start Visio from the Start menu.
2. An activation window appears the first time you start it. Select the option to enter a product key (instead of signing in with an account).
3. Type in the 25-character licence key from your Keywi24 order email, ideally by copying and pasting.
4. Confirm with Next and accept the licence terms.
5. Done. Under File > Account it now says Product Activated.

No activation window appeared? In Visio, open File > Account and click Change Product Key. There you can enter the key at any time afterwards.

Phone activation: For some keys (volume licences), Microsoft requires activation by phone. This is a fully automated system. You do not speak to anyone; you simply enter the displayed installation ID using the keypad and receive a confirmation ID in return. The process takes a few minutes and is free of charge.

Common problems

• Typing error in the key: Watch out for mix-ups such as 'O' and '0' or 'B' and '8'. It is best to copy the key directly from the email.
• Installation aborts: Usually a pre-installed Office trial version is blocking the setup. Uninstall it via Settings > Apps, restart the PC and run the setup again.
• "Unlicensed Product" message: Check under File > Account whether the key was accepted and, if necessary, enter it again via Change Product Key.
• Wrong edition: A key for Visio 2024 Standard will not activate a Professional installation, and vice versa. If in doubt, download the edition matching your order again from the download page.
