This guide takes you through the installation and activation of Microsoft Project 2024 (Standard or Professional) on Windows. You received your 25-character product key by email after your purchase, so keep that email to hand.
Note: Project 2024 is a perpetual licence for one PC, not a subscription. A Microsoft 365 subscription is not required for installation or activation.
System requirements
Project 2024 runs exclusively on Windows. Before downloading, check these points:
- Operating system: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
- Processor: 1.6 GHz or faster, at least 2 cores
- Memory: at least 4 GB RAM
- Hard drive: at least 4 GB of free disk space
- Internet connection: required for download and activation
Important: Project 2024 is not available for macOS. The licence can only be redeemed on a Windows PC.
Before installing: check your existing Office
Project 2024 is installed in addition to an existing Office and does not replace it. Word, Excel and Outlook remain unchanged. You should still bear two points in mind:
- Alongside Office 2021, Office 2024 and Microsoft 365, Project 2024 generally runs without problems on the same PC.
- With older Office versions (2016/2019), the setup may report a version conflict. In that case, cancel and contact us via live chat. We will check the combination together with you.
- Uninstall any existing Project trial version or older Project version beforehand under
Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
Step 1: Download Project 2024
- Open our download page.
- Select Microsoft Project 2024 in the edition you purchased (Standard or Professional).
- Save the installation file, for example in your
Downloadsfolder.
Security note: Only use the installer from our download page or the official route via microsoft.com. This ensures that the file is original and unmodified.
Step 2: Run the installation
- Close all open Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Double-click the downloaded file to start it.
- Confirm the User Account Control prompt with Yes.
- The setup downloads and installs Project automatically. No further input is required. Depending on your internet connection, this takes 5 to 15 minutes.
- Wait until the message "You're all set! Project is installed now." appears, then close the window.
Step 3: Activate with your product key
- Start Project from the Start menu.
- If no activation prompt appears the first time you start it, click
File>Account> Change Product Key. - Enter the 25-character product key from your email.
- Click Next. Activation takes place online and takes only a few seconds.
- Check under
File > Accountthat it says "Product Activated".
Phone activation: For some keys (particularly volume licences), Microsoft suggests activation by phone. This is an automated system. You do not speak to a member of staff; you simply enter the displayed installation ID using the phone keypad. You will find step-by-step instructions in our activation help.
Common problems
- Key is not accepted: Check for typing errors. Common mix-ups are 'O' and '0' or 'B' and '8'. It is best to copy the key directly from the email.
- "The product key is not valid for this version": The edition and installation must match. A Standard key will not activate a Professional installation. In that case, download the matching installation file again from our download page.
- Setup aborts: Uninstall trial and previous versions of Project, restart the PC and run the setup again.
- Online activation fails: Check your internet connection and try again after a few minutes. Alternatively, phone activation via Microsoft's automated system also works.
