This guide walks you through installing and activating Microsoft Office 2024 Standard on your Mac. You received your 25-character product key from us by email after your purchase. All you need is that email and a Mac with an internet connection.
Before installing
Keep the delivery email with your product key to hand. Download the matching installer for Office 2024 Standard (Mac) from our download page.
Important: Do not install Office from the Mac App Store. The App Store versions of Word, Excel and the other apps can only be unlocked with a Microsoft 365 subscription and do not accept a product key. Always use the .pkg installer from our download page.
System requirements
Before downloading, check that your Mac meets the requirements:
- Operating system: macOS 13 Ventura or later. Microsoft supports the three most recent macOS versions, so keep your system as up to date as possible.
- Processor: Apple Silicon (M1 or later) and Intel Macs are supported.
- Memory: at least 4 GB RAM.
- Disk space: around 10 GB of free hard drive space.
- Internet connection: required for download and activation.
You can find your installed macOS version via the Apple menu under About This Mac.
Preparation: remove older Office versions
If Office 2016, 2019, 2021 or a trial version is already installed, remove it first. Office versions installed side by side often cause licence conflicts on the Mac.
- Quit all open Office programs completely.
- In Finder, open the
Applicationsfolder and drag the old Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote) to the Bin. - Empty the Bin and restart your Mac.
Installation step by step
- Download the .pkg installer for Office 2024 Standard (Mac) from our download page. The file is several gigabytes in size, so allow some time depending on your connection.
- Double-click the downloaded .pkg file (found in the
Downloadsfolder). - Follow the installation wizard:
Continue> accept the licence terms >Install. - Enter your Mac's administrator password when macOS asks for it.
- Wait until the installation is complete (5 to 10 minutes depending on your device) and click
Close.
You will then find Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote in the Applications folder.
Activate Office 2024 Standard
Office 2024 Standard is a volume licence. Activation takes place locally on your Mac, and a Microsoft account is not required.
- After installing Office, run the licence tool (Volume License Serializer, a small .pkg file). You will find it alongside the installer on our download page; the exact details for your order are in the delivery email.
- Follow the short wizard (
Continue>Install). The tool stores the licence directly on the device within a few seconds. - Then open Word. No activation prompt appears any more.
- Check: In the menu bar, click
Word > About Word. The licence shown there is the 2024 volume licence.
Note: If an Office app still asks you to sign in, you can simply close the window or choose
Sign in later. The volume licence does not need a Microsoft login. If your delivery email contains different activation steps (for example entering the product key directly in an Office app), please follow the instructions given there.
Common problems
If something does not work, please quickly check these points:
- "Unlicensed Product" message: Run the licence tool again. The order matters: install Office first, then the licence tool. Afterwards, quit all Office apps and open Word again.
- Installer does not start or aborts: Check your macOS version (at least macOS 13 Ventura) and the free disk space. If necessary, download the .pkg file again, as interrupted downloads are a common cause.
- App Store version installed: Office apps downloaded from the Mac App Store do not accept a product key. Uninstall them and use the .pkg installer from our download page.
- Old licence is shown: Remnants of a previous Office installation can override the new licence. Remove older Office versions as described above, restart your Mac and then run the licence tool once more.
