Install Office 2024 Home and Business for Windows

With Office 2024 Home and Business you get Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook as a one-time purchase for one Windows PC, with no subscription. You received your 25-character product key from us by email after your purchase. This guide takes you from redeeming the key to full activation in around 15 minutes.

System requirements

Before installing, check that your PC meets the requirements:

• Operating system: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
• Memory: at least 4 GB RAM
• Hard drive: around 4 GB of free disk space
• Other: an internet connection, a Microsoft account (free) and an up-to-date browser for redeeming the key

Important: Office 2024 no longer runs on Windows 8.1 or older. On such systems, the setup itself will already fail.

Preparation: remove old Office

Many new PCs come with a Microsoft 365 trial pre-installed. It conflicts with the installation of Office 2024 and should be removed beforehand.

1. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
2. Look for entries such as Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office and uninstall them.
3. Then restart the PC.

Note: Your documents are kept when you uninstall. Only the software is removed, not your files.

Redeem the product key in your Microsoft account

Office 2024 Home and Business is permanently linked to your Microsoft account. The key is therefore redeemed in the browser, not yet on the PC itself.

1. Open the official redemption page setup.office.com.
2. Sign in: Sign in with your Microsoft account or create a new one free of charge.
3. Enter the key: Type in the 25-character product key from our email.
4. Confirm your country and language and click Redeem.

Remember this account: From now on, the licence is firmly tied to it. If you reinstall later, you will not need the key again. Signing in with this account is enough.

Download and install Office

1. After redeeming, Microsoft takes you straight to the download. Alternatively, you can find Office at any time at account.microsoft.com under Services & subscriptions.
2. Next to Office Home and Business 2024, click Install.
3. Double-click the downloaded file (for example OfficeSetup.exe) to run it and confirm the Windows security prompt.
4. The setup downloads all programs automatically. Keep your internet connection active and wait until the message You're all set appears.

Note on the download route: Unlike Professional Plus versions, the download for Home and Business goes through your Microsoft account so that the licence is linked correctly. You will find an overview of all installation routes on our download page.

Check activation

1. After the installation, open Word.
2. If a sign-in prompt appears, sign in with the same Microsoft account you used to redeem the key.
3. Check under File > Account that it says Product Activated and "Office Home and Business 2024".

That completes the setup. You do not need to enter a product key in the programs themselves, as the licence comes through your sign-in.

Common problems

• "This product key has already been used": The key has probably already been redeemed. Check under Services & subscriptions in your Microsoft account whether Office already appears there. If so, you can download it directly and do not need to enter the key again.
• Office reports "Unlicensed Product": Check under File > Account which email address you are signed in with. Sign out and sign back in with the account you used to redeem the key.
• Typing error in the key: Watch out for mix-ups such as 'B' and '8' or 'Q' and '0'. It is best to copy the key directly from our email.
• Installation aborts: Usually remnants of an old Office version or the pre-installed trial are the cause. Remove them completely (see Preparation), restart the PC and run the setup again.
