Office 2019 Mac End of Support: What Changes on 13 July 2026

Two dates, one topic: no more updates since October 2023, and from July 2026 you can only read instead of save. Here you'll find a calm, factual explanation of what the end of support for Office 2019 means in practice on your Mac, and which path moves you forward without a subscription.

Auf einen Blick

Office 2019 for Mac: end of support on 10/10/2023, read-only from 13/07/2026 due to certificate expiry. What this means and why Office 2024 for Mac (one-time purchase) is the solution.

The Office 2019 Mac end of support causes uncertainty because two dates get mixed up: the regular support (mainstream support) already ended on 10 October 2023, and since then there have been no feature or security updates. The decisive deadline, however, only comes on 13 July 2026 — from that point on, Office 2019 for Mac runs in read-only mode. On this page you'll learn factually what exactly happens and how to keep working without a subscription.

Office 2019 Mac End of Support: The Two Dates at a Glance

When it comes to the end of support for Office 2019 for Mac, two different dates are often conflated. It's important to keep them apart, because they have different consequences for your daily work.

  • 10 October 2023 — End of mainstream support: since this date, Office 2019 for Mac has received no more feature or security updates. The programs keep running but are technically frozen.
  • 13 July 2026 — Switch to read-only: from this deadline onwards you can only open, view and print documents — no longer edit or save them.

What Read-Only from 13 July 2026 Means in Practice

Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook will still launch after 13 July 2026 — so the apps will fundamentally keep working. What disappears is editing and saving: you can still open, read and print existing files, but you can no longer save any changes.

This restriction affects all four programs equally. In Word you can no longer add to texts, in Excel you can no longer change tables and formulas, in PowerPoint you can no longer adjust slides, and in Outlook the usual work on your data is no longer possible. So you can still see your content, but you can no longer actively edit it.

The reason is an expiring code-signing certificate that Microsoft is not renewing for Office 2019 (and for non-updated versions of Office 2021 for Mac). Updated Office 2021 installations from version 16.83 onwards are not affected for now.

What You Should Do Before 13 July 2026

You don't have to wait until the deadline. It makes sense to plan the switch calmly before 13 July 2026, rather than acting under time pressure only afterwards. First back up your important files and get an overview of which documents you edit regularly. That way you ensure you can keep working without restrictions after the deadline too, and don't suddenly find yourself facing read-only documents.

Häufige Fragen

Startet Office 2019 für Mac nach dem 13. Juli 2026 noch?

Ja.

Bleiben meine bestehenden Dateien nutzbar?

Ja. Beim Wechsel entsteht kein Datenverlust.
