Why Office 2019 for Mac is no longer worth it

Office 2019 for Mac is technically at the end of its road: standard support (mainstream end) already ended on 10/10/2023.

The crunch comes on 13 July 2026, when the certificate that signs the apps expires. A perpetual licence itself does have no expiry date, bought once, no subscription. However, updates are only available within the lifecycle period defined by Microsoft, and for Office 2019 that has already lapsed.

What exactly happens from the deadline on: your programs don't crash, they open normally. You can still view and print existing documents, but no longer save any changes. The apps switch to a pure read-only mode and are therefore no longer usable for active work.
