Displaying the licence status in Office

  • Open an Office app. Start Word, Excel or another Office app and open a blank document.
  • Click on File. Open the File menu at the top left.
  • Select Account. In the left-hand menu, click on Account (in Outlook: Office Account).
  • Read the product information. Under Product Information you will see which Office version is activated. If it says Product Activated, everything is fine.

What the status display means

If your Office product is listed under Product Information with the note Product Activated, the licence is correctly linked. You will also see there whether it is a perpetual licence or a Microsoft 365 subscription.

If instead a warning appears such as Product Deactivated or a prompt to activate, the licence is not yet linked or there was an activation problem. In that case, our German-speaking support is happy to help you free of charge, for 90 days after purchase.

Where can I see whether my Office licence is activated?

In any Office app via File, then Account. The activation status is shown under Product Information. Product activated means everything is in order.

What does Product deactivated mean?

The licence is not, or no longer, correctly linked. This can happen after a hardware change or when activation was never completed. Our support helps free of charge to resolve it.

Can I check after purchase whether the licence is genuine?

The most reliable test is activation itself. If Microsoft's server accepts the licence and Office shows Product activated, the licence is validly linked.
